Nature for children

Created by Maureen 2 years ago
I first met Mary over 30 years ago when we were both involved in saving Forest Lane Park as a more natural habitat. The council were intending to cut down many of the mature trees to make tennis courts and a bowling green.  We fought to keep some of the original fratures and to add ponds and a meadow. We met every other Sunday with the support of London wildlife trust and Conservation Volunteers, and got families involved in clearing,  pruning, tree and bulb planting. We submitted plans for a different vision of the park, which were mostly accepted and reflected in the park as you see it today. Mary was very much at the heart of this. Happy days.
